Economic recovery measurement of 2005 hurricane Katrina in Louisiana

Economic system is a complex giant system. Post-disaster economic recovery case studies are essential for designing or validating economic loss estimation models (e.g., input-output model or computable general equilibrium model) of disasters. Time series economic recovery case study of 2005 hurricane-Katrina demonstrates that disaster recovery is a long-term process, and Louisiana's economy still not recovered (i.e., reach a new stable state) from the disaster impact of hurricane Katrina after 6 years reconstruction, based on the indicators of gross domestic product (GDP) and per capita GDP. Recovery heterogeneity exists in different economic sectors; key sectors (e.g., utilities, transportation and education sectors) seem recovering fast than that of general sectors because of the investment attraction.
