Graphics displays: Factors in systems design

Most applications call for individualized computer-graphics system design using “off-the-shelf” subsystem building blocks In image processing, architectural design, cockpit simulation, artist-console operation, and process control, users can turn to large computer-graphics systems that come complete with all the necessary hardware and software (see “Graphics displays,” Aug., p. 24). But much more common is the case in which a set of unique requirements calls for individualized computer-graphics system design.
