Measuring and recording atmospheric electrostatic potential

An electrostatic voltmeter designed to record potentials as low as 1 volt direct current with an input resistance of 10

ohms is described. It uses an electrostatic generator to provide an a-c signal proportional to voltage, together with a simple audio amplifier which requires only a commercial 1-milliampere recording meter as auxiliary equipment.
