2D Modelling and Simulation of DC Resistivity Using Comsol

When using COMSOL Multiphysics to modeling the 2D DC resistivity survey, a point in 2D plane actually means a line in 3d space, therefore traditional modeling method which using Poisson's equation can only simulate line sources and cannot simulate a point sources. To solve this problem, this paper derived the potential in 2D plane based on the weak form using finite element, and then a model of DC resistivity is established using comsol multiphysics. We compared the numerical solution and analytical solution using an electrically homogeneous half-space as an example. Our results show that the numerical solution is consistent with the analytical solution.
