Analysis of flux barrier effects on iron loss and temperature rise of IPMSM

In this paper, a barrier was designed to reduce cogging torque. However iron loss and temperature rise according to the designed barrier can present problems. Iron loss of the optimized model is 2.8[%] larger than that of the basic model, because the sinusoidal flux density at the end of the stator teeth was increased. Mechanical loss was separated by manufacture non-magnetized model, and input variations with the power analyzer were measured for an experiment of the iron loss. Error of 3.08[%] between the calculated results and experiment results was generated in the optimized model. Temperature rise of the motor was calculated by using a thermal equivalent circuit, and error of 3.1[%] between the calculated results and experimented result was generated in the optimized model.
