ARINC 653's primary motivation is a desire to facilitate software integration, portability and reuse through interface standardization. 653p1 addresses this goal for IMA modules. 653p4 brings the benefits of 653-style standards to non-IMA modules (eg, LRUs). most avionics devices are non-IMA modules. 653p4 may result in significant reductions in the overall cost of avionics development.
