Backstepping controlled rectifier for maximum power point tracking in photovoltaic arrays

A grid tied photovoltaic (PV) array is considered for this work. The novelty is in the use of a single-phase controlled rectifier with a backstepping controller to track the maximum power operating point (MPOP) for a string of PV arrays under varying atmospheric conditions. The stability of the controller is demonstrated by means of a Lyapunov analysis. A circuit level simulation demonstrates that the designed converter and control strategy transfers power to the grid by efficiently tracking the MPOP.
