A generalization of the calculus of finite differences to nonuniformly spaced variables

In the conventional calculus of finite differences the n sets of k independent variables x(1)α, x(2)α,x(k)α are assumed uniformly spaced along each of the k axes of a rectangular frame. Occasionally nonuniform spacings are also assumed, but only along one dimension.
