Recent technological advances have sparked renewed interest in projection television systems for the home. Manufacturers are waging a brightness battle, using as their weapons faster optics, higher-gain screens, more efficient phosphors, new picture tube designs, and other innovations. Their objective? Literally to outshine their competitors and win over as many consumers as possible — consumers who may be hard to convince that the big picture is worth the big price.
