Abstract:

In this paper, two methods which can be utilized to emulate any gas turbine synchronous generator (GT-SG) setup with the use of power electronics converters, regardless of power level, is provided. The dynamic equations of the GT and SG are utilized to construct their models, and are implemented in MATLAB/Simulink®. An active-front-end (AFE) and inverter (INV) are utilized to emulate the gas turbine and synchronous generator dynamics, respectively. Controls are set up for the GT-SG model and their control signals are utilized to provide the switching commands for the AFE and INV, respectively, to perform the emulation. Parameter duality between the GT-SG model and the AFE-INV model are provided.
