Influence of approach speed of grounded electrode on ESD from charged metal

In this study, we considered the influences of approach speed of the grounded electrode on characteristic of ESD from charged metal. The approach speed ranges from 0.04mm/s to 4mm/s. The applied voltage is +3kV and +5kV. The analyses are done from the viewpoint of the followings; (1) The gap length of discharge inception. (2) Relationship between the breakdown electric field strength and the shape of discharge current waveform. (3) The peak current and the rising speed of 1

peak of discharge current. From experimental results, we found that the approach speed affected the distribution of the gap length of discharge inception. This change of the gap length led to change the shape of the discharge current waveform, the 1

peak current and their rising speed.
