A Novel MILO With Stable Frequency

A novel magnetically insulated transmission line oscillator with stable frequency and high efficiency is put forward by slotting plates to introduce a 2-D periodic slow-wave structure in the interaction field between the beam and microwave. In this kind of magnetically insulated line oscillator (MILO), the symmetrical and low-level dissymmetrical modes have the same working frequency, which makes the frequency of the microwave stable during modes competition. At the same time, efficiency is increased for the interaction distance is increased after the beam crosses the gap on the plates. A particle-in-cell simulation indicates that high-power microwave with pure frequency of 1.22 GHz and multimodes of TEM, TE
₁₁
, and TE
₂₁
, is generated and the average output power is increased to 2.8 GW from 2.4 GW compared with the original MILO when the beam voltage is 450 kV and current is 43 kA. The frequency can also keep stable after asymmetrically exciting.
