Carbon nanotube on porous silicon support — A diameter controlled synthesis

Carbon nanotubes have been synthesized on porous silicon template using camphor oil as precursor. The synthesis was done using double furnace thermal chemical vapour deposition in presence of ferrocene as catalyst. Porous silicon was prepared by photo-electrochemical anodization method at 20 mA/cm
²
of current density for various etching time ranging from 10-30 min. The diameter of carbon nanotube grown on different PSiT shown decrease with increase anodic time. The spiral carbon nanotube was successfully grown directly on porous (30 minutes etching time) at 800°C for 1 hours deposition time with 82.90 nm diameter of carbon nanotubes, while 172.7 nm diameter of coil [Fig. 1]. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and microRaman reveal that intergration of camphor-catalyst approach and porous silicon template will produce high yield and densely packed of bundle CNTs.
