A Low Profile Dual Band Antenna for Implanted ZigBee Based Biosensors

In this paper, a low profile uniplanar monopole dual band antenna was developed for implanted Zigbee based biosensors. The proposed antenna is consisted of T type monopole radiating part and four rectangular inductive loading spirals structure. The operating resonant frequencies are designed to conform to ZigBee dual bands, 886~924MHz and 2.4~2.45GHz, respectively. While the proposed antenna was immersed in fresh ground pork, it exhibits good implanted antenna radiating characteristic, omni directional radiation pattern and high measured peak gain at 900MHz/ 2.4GHz, -11.07 and -14.2 (dBi), respectively. Due to avoiding the resonance frequency of water molecules and lower tissue absorption loss, The RF link range in the lower-frequency band (868~928 MHz) can be improved significantly.
