Measurement and monitoring techniques for scale deposits in petroleum pipelines

Problems of detection and quantification of scale deposits in petroleum pipelines are discussed. Solutions based on novel ultrasonic techniques to extract characteristic features of these deposits from top-side measurements and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are presented. The potential of ultrasonic imaging for pipeline surveys and for monitoring the effectiveness of chemical de-scaling of down-hole pipes are presented.
