Extracting maximum information from the signal obtained from the dynamic images with positron emission tomography

An optimal design technique is proposed based on the traditional optimal design for a discrete sampled experiment. The technique can be used to extract the maximum information from the signal obtained from the dynamic images recorded continuously in positron emission tomography kinetic studies. An application example for estimating cerebral metabolic rate of glucose is used to illustrate this new technique. The result show that using the optimal design technique proposed, not only can the maximum information be obtained from the signal recorded, but also the image storage space can be reduced by more then 75%.
