A 3D simulation of a single section electrostatic precipitator for dust particles removal

The complicated precipitation process for collecting dust particles is simulated in 3D for a single section electrostatic precipitator. The precipitator contains two parallel collecting plates at ground potential and a single corona electrode mounted in the middle of the channel supplied with a high voltage. A hybrid FEM-FCT technique was developed to estimate the electric potential and ionic charge density distribution in the channel. FLUENT commercial software was used for solving the fluid dynamics equations. The collection efficiencies of different particle sizes were evaluated and compared for three discharge electrode configurations: a smooth cylindrical wire, one sided spike tape and two sided spike tape electrode.
