Cohort study on hypertension prevalence in certain rural area of Jilin province

Analysis and investigation on hypertension prevalence and changing trend among some rural population in Jilin province to determine the major risk factors and provide scientific data for hypertension preventive effort in Jilin province. By stratified cluster sampling and cohort study, the major risk factors surveying and blood pressure testing were carried out on 721 regular residents aged from 45 to 74 year old in Yongji County, Jilin Province during a 7 year period from 2000 to 2007. Data gathered was statistically analyzed. Results: During the 7 years, hypertension prevalence increased 15.3% (37.17% in 2000, 52.47% in 2007, p<;0.01). And increase on moderate and server Hypertension was more remarkable (15.81% in 2000, 24.86% in 2007, p<;0.01). Increasing trend in hypertension prevalence was observed in the population. Hypertension prevalence among rural population in Jilin province was higher than that of the rest of our country. And the trend was on the rise. Therefore, proactively spreading the knowledge regarding hypertension and health care to rural people and taking various effective ways to strengthen primary and secondary prevention for hypertension shall be in high priority in our province.
