Numerical analysis of turbulent viscous flow around an elliptical airfoil and cylinder by potential flow patterns, vortices, sources & sinks: Random vortex method simulation

In this paper we present a study of numerical simulation by using potential flow patterns, vortices, sources and sinks or Random Vortex Method for a two dimensional viscous and incompressible flow passed the Elliptical Airfoil and cylinder. In this paper at first, we simulated the turbulent viscous flow passed the cylinder by random vortex method and using the FORTRAN language. In comparison to the experimental result of velocity field which was submitted by Cantwell & Coles in Reynolds number 140000 [4], the simulated velocity shows that the accuracy of the method is acceptable. After that we simulated the mentioned flow passed the elliptical airfoil like the cylinder and calculated the velocity field around it. As we didn't have any experimental result for velocity field around the elliptical airfoils, we used the fluent software to compare the result of simulation. In comparison to the experimental results, numerical result confirms simulating algorithm accuracy of the method so we could find the pressure distribution, tangential and normal shear stress, drag and lift coefficient around the cylinder. After that we found the velocity vectors and streamline for each time steps around the cylinder and elliptical airfoil. It is necessary to know that we use a code of FORTRAN language which can simulate all of the above result together.
