Spelling Correction for Chinese Language Based on Pinyin-Soundex Algorithm

Spelling correction means offering one or more proposed corrections after spelling checker detecting some spelling errors in the text. It can be a standalone application, or part of a large one, such as: text editor, search engine, Email client, e-dictionary and so on. With the widespread usage of information retrieval, if the text inputted by users contains spelling errors and is submitted to search engine for querying and processing, it would be a great waste of computing resources and users' time. So, spelling correction is important for either text editor or search engine. This paper will use edit distance algorithm, a soundex algorithm variant that was combined with pinyin to implement a new Chinese-language spelling correction
