Air humidification by a liquid membrane of triethylene glycol

Triethylene glycol (TEG) liquid was used to a liquid membrane material for indoor air humidification. An novel surface-soaked liquid membrane under vacuum permeation was developed using a hydrophobic microporous membrane, only one surface of which was hydrophillic-treated to contain TEG by corona treatment. A flat membrane module with 0.39 m
²
area was placed in outdoor, and water vapor was permeated to humidify the indoor air avoiding by the risk of contamination of indoor air. When the sweep air flow rate was 6 L/min, the relative humidity of sweep air and outdoor air was 20–48 %RH at 297 K, water vapor permeation rate reached to 1.5–3.8 g-water/h. For this air humidification theoretic model was proposed and verified to predict the performance of operation well.
