Measurement and simulation of the DECT indoor propagation channel

Among the PCS standards for indoor applications, DECT is emerging as one of the most challenging solution, both for its inherent self-planning capabilities and the high bit-rates allowed for information transmission. In order to investigate DECT performance, reliable analysis tools are required. The results of an accurate measurement campaign inside a PCS factory are compared with the predictions provided by a fully three dimensional ray-tracing software program. The comparisons refer not only to the usual narrowband field prediction problem, but also try to shed a light on a crucial topic for high bit-rate applications, that is the complex wideband characterization of indoor channels. The preliminary results presented, show a good agreement between measured and simulated path losses, whereas the wideband parameters exhibit some deviations, particularly in case of the farther locations and for a larger number of interposed walls between the transmitter and receiver.
