Optimization of waveform diversity and performance for pulse-agile radar

The transmission of different radar waveforms within the set of pulses constituting a coherent processing interval (CPI), otherwise known as pulse-agile radar, has several potential applications. However, with regard to interference cancellation a problem arises due to the modulation of clutter as a result of the different range sidelobe structure for the different waveforms. Recently, a joint Least-Squares (JLS) mismatch filter design was proposed to partially alleviate this clutter modulation effect. In this paper, JLS receive filtering is used in conjunction with Marginal Fisher's Information (MFI) waveform design to optimize both the waveforms and filters within the pulse-agile radar paradigm.
