Image enhancement with 2-D block LMS adaptive IIR filters

A class of two-dimensional adaptive infinite impulse response filters using the block least-mean-square algorithm and output-error formulation is introduced. The multiplier coefficients of the adaptive filter are updated once per block of pixels rather than per pixel. This approach leads to faster implementation and lower computational complexity. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the potential applications of the proposed adaptive filters in two-dimensional system identification and image enhancement.
