The impulse breakdown trajectory in air between rod and plane electrodes

Image processing was used to analyze video recordings of electrical breakdown paths in a rod/plane electrode air gap. The number of segments in the breakdown path was found to vary as the applied over-voltage was changed. The results are discussed in terms of a prebreakdown space charge model.
