Further results of /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-STAP approach to airborne surveillance radars

This paper presents some further results on the STAP approach using sum (/spl Sigma/) and difference (/spl Delta/) beams, including the desired characteristics of the /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-beampatterns, comparison of the /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-STAP and /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-DPCA, and an evaluation of its performance for three different /spl Delta/ beams. It is shown that: (a) /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-STAP is not sensitive to the sidelobe textures of the /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-beampatterns if the receive and transmit antennas have reasonably low sidelobes; (b) /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-STAP can be viewed as a natural extension of /spl Sigma//spl Delta/-DPCA with the added adaptivity to overcome the DPCA shortcomings; (c) in addition to the azimuth difference (/spl Delta//sub a/) beam, elevation difference (/spl Delta//sub e/) and azimuth-elevation difference (/spl Delta//sub ae/) beams are two useful candidates, especially when more spatial channels are needed.
