A modelling study on the effects of the geometry of recording sites on neural signal transduction

The shape (geometry) of planar thin-film microelectrode recording sites may have some influence on neural signal transduction. This was examined numerically for three different geometries; circular, triangular, and square. The results indicated that circular sites were most like ideal point electrodes. Triangular sites appeared to have some directionality in their recording properties. It was also shown that for sources close to the site, smaller sites would be expected to record larger signals.
