Evolution of modern display technologies in a 3D ecosystem

Since its invention by the end of the 19
^th
century, display technologies have undergone several (r-)evolutions, from the introduction of color in the late 50s to the apparition of the first flat panel TVs in mid 90s. Today, we are faced again with a further evolutionary step manifested by the introduction of another dimension: vision depth. In this paper, we will give a rapid overview of the latest key evolutions of the flat panel technologies before entering the world of stereoscopic displaying, its status, trends and outlook.
