Polarization splitter based on all solid three-core photonic crystal fibers

A polarization splitter in all-solid PCF based on the mode-sorting effect is proposed. A full-vector finite element method is employed to design the splitter, and a full-vector beam propagation method is used to analyze the characteristics of the splitter. Numerical simulations show that the splitting length is 7.7mm when the operating wavelength is 1.55µm. An extinction ratio less than −15dB is obtained within the wavelength range of 1.537–1.561µm. In addition, the extinction ratios are −32.7dB and −20.0dB for x and y polarization, respectively.
