Electric field behavior near metallic wedges

Electric field behavior is determined on perfect metallic wedges of bidimensional, conical, and three-dimensional shape. The analytical treatment is based on solving Laplace's equation in spherical and conical coordinate systems. For both cases, the components of the electric field behave like r/sup alpha /, presenting a singularity when alpha <0. A quasi-analytic procedure is used to determine alpha based on the theory of Legendre and Lame's functions. This allows an accuracy of about seven decimal places that is easy to increase if necessary.<
