Smartcards become an international technology

Smartcards were first introduced nearly 20 years ago in France to reduce credit card fraud. This new technology grew slowly but steadily for several years. It is now making a leap into new application areas and international markets. Smartcards are now used in many countries and acceptance is expected to grow dramatically.
