Compensating primary mirror distortions in astronomical telescopes with real-time holography

In this work, we investigate real-time holographic phase subtraction as a technique for compensating astronomical telescope primary mirror distortions. The technique is all-optical and avoids the use of wavefront analyzers, computer processors, or adaptive controls. Real-time holography is demonstrated with both nonlinear optical materials and optically addressed spatial light modulators.
