Numerical model of crimping by finite element method

Numerical model of crimping by finite element method is proposed, and the concept of an instantaneous strain by a creep is introduced to this model. The spring-back quantity is reduced by the exchange of elastic strain to instantaneous strain, and contact force occurs between the barrel and conductors. The hinge model is also proposed to explain the effect of the barrel length; crimps with a long barrel have higher contact pressure. The contact pressure of short and long barrel crimps are 2.5 kg/mm/sup 2/ and more than 3 kg/mm/sup 2/, respectively.
