Simulation and model computation of Taihu Lake based on GIS

The Taihu Lake water is the lifelines of economic and social development of the Taihu Lake valley. In recent years, the deterioration, eutrophication and other water pollution problems are increasingly serious, which have become new constraints of regional development. The cure of eutrophication and pollution of Taihu Lake is imminent. At the same time, 3D geo-science modeling and 3D dynamic process simulation have become prevalent in GIS research fields currently. The paper is the embodiment of GIS modeling methods applied to geo-simulation research. In this paper, integrated three-dimensional Taihu Lake's water contaminants transportation model, the simulation, prediction and visualization of contaminants transportation process are achieved. Firstly, considering the complex dynamic characteristics of hydrodynamic and environment factors, the 2D finite triangular mesh generation method based on advancing fronts technique (AFT) is proposed, which can be extended to 3D mesh easily by vertical extension, and the mesh for contaminants transportation modeling simulation is satisfied. Then, the data organization method for three-dimensional numerical simulation modeling is proposed. The spatial distributed parameters of point, line, surface and voxel of Taihu Lake conceptual model are quickly extracted and evaluated visually and automatically combined with spatial analysis techniques in GIS. And the finite-element model is used for numerical simulation. Finally, the three-dimensional visualization of the scalar/vector field of numerical simulation process is expressed which can visualize the dynamic process of contaminants transportation. And the simulation results can be used for water resource optimal management. The research indicate that the integration of 3D GIS and geo-analysis model be convenient and can accelerate process simulation of geo-science.
