Pedestrian's Critical Cross Gap and its Application in Conflict Simulation

Within all the casualties of road traffic accident in China pedestrian death consists of 26% every year. Pedestrian safety has been a significant problem in developing countries. In the pedestrian vehicle conflict simulation, critical cross gap in the successive traffic flow for the pedestrian is essential. By analyzing the interlaced time gap and its distribution whether pedestrian choose to cross or not, critical cross gap t̅

=4.43s is calculated. Applying the gap, this paper sets up the vehicle-pedestrian conflict model on condition of one pedestrian crossing a single lane and Monte-Carlo system simulation is used to calculate the probability of vehicle-pedestrian collision.
