Morphological Changes of Chondrocytes in Compressed Articular Cartilage Using Polarized Light Microscopy

The orientation and shape of chondrocytes in compressed articular cartilage were studied quantitatively by polarized light microscopy (PLM) at 0.34 μm pixel-resolution. The morphological changes of the cell shapes, the cell orientation, and the territorial matrix surrounding the chondrocytes in articular cartilage were quantified.
