Rapid Start-Up of a High Performance Bio-Trickling Filter Removal of H2S

Hydrogen sulfur was regarded as the research object in this study. Correlated research of biological treatment of hydrogen sulfide was investigated. Domestication in an aeration flask was employed to screen out the optimal bacteria (Thiobacillus). Na

S was used as the inducer in the domestication period. Gas-liquid phase joint inoculation method could start up biotrickling filter effectively. The effect of air surface velocity (0.20-1.00 m

/h), the concentration of SO
₄
^2-
and S
₂
^-
in the liquid, empty bed residence time (EBRT) (150-11s) and the removal capacity were investigated. The overall start-up period was only 2days with high removal efficiency of 99%. In this study, biotrickling filter run more than 150 days with high removal performance. The optimal empty bed residence time was 30 s when in a constant inlet loading of 35.5gH
₂
S/m
³
/h. The experiment showed that domestication in aeration flask could select the optimal bacteria to degrade H
₂
S. Gas-liquid inoculation method could shorten the start-up period. Furthermore, the biotrickling filter exhibited a high performance in the long running.
