Abstract:
In this paper, we have investigated the behaviour of a HIS composed of several EBG cells for mutual coupling reduction between L band patch antennas. An innovative characterisation method, based on waveguide transmission measurements, has been used to assess the decoupling properties of the HIS under grazing incidence. Two different HIS design configurations: the embedded and non embedded HIS have been studied. It has been shown that two additional frequencies are present for the embedded configuration as opposed to the non embedded configuration. The enhanced decoupling properties of the embedded HIS configuration could be used to design multiband antenna systems with a limited number of cells.
