Combined LEGO-eigencurrent approach for enhanced solution of electrically large 2-D EBG structures

We combine the linear embedding via Green's operators (LEGO) and the eigencurrent expansion method (EEM) to efficiently deal with 2-D electrically large electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures. In LEGO, the composite structure is broken up into elements called “bricks” that are characterized through scattering operators by invoking Love's equivalence principle. The problem is then formulated through an integral equation involving the total inverse scattering operator S-1 of the structure. The resulting equation is solved by the method of moments (MoM) and the EEM, which allows for considerable reduction in the size of the resulting MoM matrix. Therefore, it enables us to handle relatively large structures.
