Algebras and nonlinear multiresolution analysis that are consistent with the Strang and Fix conditions

We investigate how the concept of multiresolution analysis can be adapted in order to handle nonlinear operators. Under reasonable assumptions this question has a unique answer, which we characterize and build explicitely here.
