Adiabatic computing: A contemporary review

Adiabatic logic is also called energy recovery logic. Thermodynamic meaning no heat transfer. Instead of dissipating power reuse it[1]. It achieves low power consumption by restricting the currents to flow across devices with low voltage drop and by recycling the energy stored in their node capacitors using an AC type power supply rather than DC. This paper focuses on principles of adiabatic logic, its classifications and comparison of various adiabatic logic circuits. An attempt has been made in this paper to modify some adiabatic logic circuits to minimize total power consumption with respect to normal CMOS logic. This paper investigates the design approaches of low power adiabatic gates in terms of energy dissipation. A computer simulation using SPICE is carried out on several inverter circuits.
