On the better understanding of electrical discharge phenomena through advanced measurement technologies

The fine structure and the developing mechanism of electrical discharges are being clarified through the advancement of various electrical and optical measurement technologies. Among such advanced technologies, biased probe, electro-optic sensors, electrostatic sensors, laser wavefront sensors, and laserinduced fluorescence methods have been effectively utilized to deepen the physical understanding of electrical discharge developing at atmospheric pressure. How these measurement methods are applied to and what physical parameters are obtained, are discussed regarding steady-state corona, streamer development, long gap discharge, surface discharge and barrier discharge under atmospheric condition.
