Construction feasibility study of the ITER EDA cryostat

The Cryostat is a large vessel serving as containment for the tokamak machine. The ITER project decided to have industry perform a feasibility study on the 1994 concept of the Cryostat. This paper summarizes the results of the study and suggests some improvements that could be brought to the design. In 1995, the design of the Cryostat was modified. A qualitative comparison between the two designs, in the light of the performed feasibility study, is attempted. Many of the suggestions of this study seem to have been incorporated in the new design.
