Building simulation tools and their role in improving existing building designs

Computational tools have proven without a doubt to be valuable assets in all engineering fields. EnergyPlus is one of several tools available to perform simulation and analysis of building energy performance. This paper deals with a case study of a simulation based energy audit of a section of Notre Dame University campus (Lebanon). Several scenarios for energy performance improvement are proposed and backed up by a detailed payback period analysis.
