Design of multi-step amplitude quantized weights for solid-state planar phased array antennas

In this paper, a new method is presented which applies the multi-step amplitude quantization method to control the sidelobe level of planar rectangular array antenna. The different sidelobe requirement in azimuthal and elevational planes are achieved. In other area, the sidelobe level can also be controlled very low. This method take the advantage of others. The amplitude distribution is chosen according to the probability theory. In determination of amplitude steps, the optimizing method is used to minimize the pattern variance and the calculation of simultaneous integrated equations is avoided.
