Dielectric and emissions models for salt water-soil mixtures

Soil emission generally depends on multiple parameters: wetness, temperature, soil type, salinity, surface roughness, etc. In order to adequately interpret remotely sensed data of soil one needs a model connecting emissivity with physical soil parameters. A model of microwave emission of wet and salted soils is suggested in this paper. The emissivity of soil is described through the Fresnel reflection formulae. The Fresnel reflection coefficients involve medium parameters through the effective permittivity. According to the model of effective permittivity being described soil is viewed as a mixture of spherical soil particles covered by water film. For the microwave range it is necessary to consider scattering effects by soil particles. The author has introduced a method of taking into account the scattering using the dynamic polarizability of the spherical particles instead of the static one. The model of effective permittivity takes into account structural parameters of the soil, the presence of free and bound water soil salinity as well as density and temperature of the soil.
