Ytterbium-doped sesquioxides for high-power solid-state lasers: Recent progress in crystal growth and laser operation

The authors demonstrated the possibility of growing crystalline, high quality Yb-doped sesquioxides. Employing the thin-disk laser geometry, optical efficiencies of more than 75% have been obtained.
