Analysis on performance deterioration of optical fiber joints with mixture of refractive index matching material and air-filled gaps

We experimentally investigated the performance of optical fiber joints with a mixture of refractive index matching material and air-filled gaps. We revealed that the insertion loss might deteriorate more than 30 dB at most.
