Locally resolved investigation of magnetic properties in wedged structures using the photothermally modulated ferromagnetic resonance technique

Locally resolved photothermally modulated ferromagnetic resonance (PM-FMR) investigations were carried out on a pure Fe-(001) wedge film and on a Fe/Ag-wedge/Fe(001) sandwich film to combine the high sensitivity of the FMR concerning magnetic anisotropies with the advantage of wedge sample preparation. For the Fe-wedge it was possible to determine the surface anisotropy K/sub s/=0.55 mJ/m/sup 2/ with very high accuracy. For the Fe/Ag/Fe-wedge the oscillation of the sign of the interlayer exchange coupling with its different coupling areas were identified by PM-FMR and verified by magnetooptic Kerr effect (MOKE) measurements.
