On the power control of a multiple beam mobile satellite CDMA system

We consider a multiple-beam mobile satellite CDMA system where all beams share the same frequency band. Though there is no near/far problem in mobile satellite CDMA, channel fading and the uneven antenna pattern of the satellite affect the performance. The up-link is modeled as a Rayleigh fading, log-normal shadowing channel. Due to the multiple beams in a footprint, the mobile station suffers interference from adjacent beams. Two power control strategies are proposed to compensate for the path loss and the uneven antenna attenuation, and to reduce the effect of log-normal shadowing and Rayleigh fading. One is an equal received power control strategy and the other is the optimal power control law strategy.
